An wildlife conservationist turned applied statistics enthusiast
About Me
Hi my name is Joy! I am a current PhD student in David Miller’s Applied Population Ecology Lab @ Penn State studying how to improve model estimates and predictions for salamander conservation and disease risk.
I’m dedicated to lifelong learning and discovery!
Some professional things I love learning about:
- Dealing with issues of spatial and temporal scale (and linking these scales to relevant ecological scales)
- Applying bayesian statistics to ecological problems
- Any organism with a cool or unique ecology!
Fun things I love learning about:
- Creating DND campaigns/oneshots (not detection non detection although I like this too…I’m talking dungeons and dragons!)
- High end clothing; specifically mindful craftsmanship and environmentally conscious materials (we are anti-polyester here)
- Vampire lore (don’t ask me why specifically vampires, this has been a lifelong obsession that I can’t explain)
